Daily Scripture Prayer: Deuteronomy 30:11–20
“For this commandment which I command thee this day, it is not hidden from thee, neither is it far off… Deuteronomy 30:11–20
Lord,
Your Word comes close today
not distant, not hidden, not unreachable.
You remind me that Your truth is not locked in heaven
nor buried across the sea.
It is near.
It is knowable.
It is doable.
It is in my mouth and in my heart.
So I stand before the choices You set before every generation:
life or death,
good or evil,
blessing or cursing.
Let my heart not drift.
Let my ears not close.
Let my feet not wander toward lesser gods
or the quiet idols that steal affection from You.
Teach me to love You with a whole heart,
to walk in Your ways with steady steps,
to keep Your commandments with joy,
that I may live, multiply, and flourish
in the land You have given me.
And when the world pulls,
when distractions whisper,
when compromise calls—
anchor me in the truth that You are my life
and the length of my days.
Today I choose life.
I choose obedience.
I choose blessing.
I choose to cleave to You—
the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
the God who keeps covenant,
the God who leads His people home.
Strengthen my resolve.
Steady my spirit.
Shape my choices.
And let my life testify
that Your Word is near
and Your way is life.
Amen.
Fatherhood / Parenting Application: Deuteronomy 30:11–20
A Father Leads by Bringing the Word Near
God tells Israel the commandment is not far off, not hidden, not unreachable.
A father must do the same for his children.
Bring the Word close, not as a mystery, but as a daily rhythm.
Make obedience understandable, not abstract, but practical.
Speak Scripture into normal life, meals, car rides, discipline moments, bedtime.
A father’s job is not to make the Bible impressive.
A father’s job is to make the Bible accessible.
A Father Teaches His Children That Choices Shape Destiny
God sets before His people:
life and good, death and evil, blessing and cursing.
Children must learn early that:
Choices have consequences
Obedience leads to life
Disobedience leads to loss
A father doesn’t shield his children from consequences.
He shepherds them through consequences so they learn wisdom.
A Father Models What It Means to “Choose Life”
Choosing life is not a slogan.
It is a lifestyle.
A father chooses life when he:
Loves the Lord openly
Walks in God’s ways consistently
Keeps God’s commandments joyfully
Repents quickly when he fails
Children learn what “life” looks like by watching their father live it.
A Father Guards His Home From Competing Gods
God warns Israel about being drawn away to other gods.
In parenting, the “other gods” are subtle:
Screens
Sports
Popularity
Comfort
Money
Peer approval
Self-worship
A father must name the idols, challenge the drift, and redirect the heart.
Identify idols in the home
Teach children to discern cultural gods
A father is the spiritual gatekeeper of his house.
A Father Thinks Generationally
“That both thou and thy seed may live.”
A father’s obedience becomes his children’s inheritance.
His choices echo into generations he will never meet.
So he:
Builds a legacy of faith
Speaks blessing over his children
Prays generational prayers
Lives with eternity in view
A father who chooses life today
sets his children on a path toward life tomorrow.
A Father Clings to God as His Own Life Source
“For He is thy life, and the length of thy days.”
A father cannot give what he does not possess.
He must cling to God:
For strength
For wisdom
For patience
For courage
For endurance
A father who cleaves to God
becomes a father his children can cleave to.
